How to Check Car Accident History in Dubai starts with the seller’s police accident reports, repair invoices, and the RTA report. Ask for the documents and obtain the RTA’s Technical Vehicle Status Report. Its listed contents include ownership history, insurance validity, test records, fines, mileage, and import details. It should not be treated as an accident report. If a seller conceals an accident, the Civil Transactions Law provides hidden-defect remedies within a one-year limit. Articles 493 to 497 and 510 set these rules.

Where The Records Sit

Accident information sits across several sources; none alone gives a full picture. The Traffic Law sets the reporting duty. For accident reporting and claims, read UAE law for car accidents.

SourceWhat It Can ShowLimit
Police accident reportsAn accident must be reported to the police or to the party the Traffic Control Authority approves within 3 hours, unless the authority accepts an excuse for the delay (Traffic Law, Article 5). A reported accident should therefore have a report. An accident that was never reported has no report, and the seller or the owner is the one who holds the report.

How To Check Car Accident History In Dubai Using The RTA Report

The report requires the owner’s agreement to disclose vehicle data. Apply online.

  1. Visit the RTA website at rta.ae and log in with UAE PASS.
  2. Go to Services, then Vehicles, and choose Apply for a Technical Vehicle Status Report.
  3. Enter the buyer’s and seller’s Emirates ID numbers. Add the vehicle’s plate number or its 17-digit VIN.
  4. Select the vehicle, choose the vehicle history report, and pay the fee, which is reported as AED 120.
  5. Receive the report by email or download it from your dashboard’s Certificates section. Processing is reported as one working day.

The RTA warns that unavailable information may be omitted at issue. Examples include insurance records or odometer readings.

Other Checks Before You Buy

Documents and an inspection fill the gaps that the RTA report leaves.

  • Ask for every police accident report on the car. Match each report’s plate and chassis number against the car.
  • Ask for repair invoices and match the VIN on them. A repair with no invoice is a question to put to the seller.
  • Before paying a deposit, arrange an inspection by a testing center or independent inspector. Give the inspector the reports you hold.
  • Record the seller’s accident-history statement in the written sale agreement. Include whether the car has had structural or airbag repairs.

If An Accident Was Concealed

A concealed accident may support a hidden-defect claim. The Civil Transactions Law sets remedies and a time limit.

PointWhat The Law ProvidesArticle
The seller’s guaranteeThe sale is made on the basis that the item is free of hidden defects. The seller does not guarantee a defect he disclosed or one the buyer knew of when buying493, 497
The buyer’s remediesIf the defect is hidden, the buyer can return the item or keep it and claim the reduction in price. The seller can avoid this by supplying a similar item without the defect.494, 495
Loss of the optionA buyer who deals with the item as an owner after learning of the defect loses the option.498
Time limitA claim for a defect is not heard after one year from the day after the buyer receives the item, unless the seller guaranteed it for longer. The seller cannot rely on the year if he concealed the defect by fraud.510

Whether an earlier accident is a defect depends on its effect on the car’s value or use. The court decides on the evidence. Keep the sale agreement, reports provided, inspection report, and messages with the seller. Act within the year. For the broader consumer framework, see customer rights in Dubai.
