The Family Law Cases Our Dubai Advocates Handle

Every case type below involves specific UAE legal rules that determine your outcome. We handle all of them.

Best Family Lawyers in Dubai

Divorce & Separation

Handling all aspects of divorce, including uncontested, contested, Talaq, Khul, and civil divorce for expats. We manage court filings, negotiations, and final decrees.

UAE Specific

UAE law treats Muslim and non-Muslim divorce differently. Getting this wrong from the start costs months.

Child Custosy & Visitation

Securing custody arrangements and visitation rights that protect your relationship with your children. We represent both mothers and fathers in Dubai family courts.

UAE Specific

Dubai courts follow the best interests of the child, but the process requires strong legal representation.

Child Support & Maintenance

Calculating, claiming, and enforcing child maintenance under Federal Decree Law No. 41 of 2024, including education, healthcare, and living expenses.

UAE Specific

Maintenance amounts are not automatic. They must be argued, calculated, and ordered by the court.

Financial Settlements

Dividing marital assets, bank accounts, property, and shared investments fairly, whether by agreement or through court proceedings.

UAE Specific

Asset division rules differ significantly between Muslim and non-Muslim cases under current UAE law.

Guardianship & Parental Rights

Establishing or challenging legal guardianship, travel consent, school enrollment rights, and decision-making authority for children.

UAE Specific

Guardianship and custody are separate legal concepts in UAE, both need to be addressed.

Family Mediation

Reaching faster, private resolutions outside court through structured mediation, reducing emotional strain, cost, and time for both parties.

UAE Specific

Not every family dispute needs a courtroom. Mediation protects relationships where possible.

Inheritance & Wills

Drafting UAE-compliant wills and advising on inheritance rights for both Muslim and non-Muslim residents of Dubai.

UAE Specific

Without a registered will, UAE default inheritance law applies, which may not match your wishes.

Gift Law (Hiba)

Advising on and structuring lifetime property and asset transfers between family members under UAE gift law, including registration and validity requirements.

UAE Specific

A gift must meet strict legal conditions to be valid and protected from later disputes among heirs.

- For Expats & Internationals

If You Are an Expat or Foreign National Dealing with Family Law in Dubai

Expats in Dubai often face family law situations that cross two or more legal systems. Here is what you need to know:

UAE courts can handle your divorce and custody case even if you are not a UAE national; jurisdiction depends on residency and where the marriage is registered.

Non-Muslim expats now have the option to apply UAE civil personal status law; this changed significantly in 2023 and gives expats more flexibility than before.

Foreign divorce and custody orders can often be recognized and enforced in Dubai, but the process requires a Dubai-licensed advocate who knows the enforcement procedure.

Our team is multilingual (Arabic, English , Urdu, Turkish& Russian) and has handled family cases for clients from the UK, Europe, South Asia, and across the Arab world.

- Know Your Rights

How Family Law Works in Dubai

Your rights depend on your situation. The first question in every case is which legal framework applies. Here is what you need to know.

Muslim Family Law

Muslim Family Law in Dubai

If you or your spouse is Muslim, your case is handled under UAE Personal Status Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 41 of 2024). This covers marriage, divorce, custody, child maintenance, guardianship, and inheritance, all based on Sharia principles and processed through Dubai's Personal Status Court.

The language of the court is Arabic. You need a lawyer who is fully fluent and knows how the Dubai Personal Status Court operates, not someone learning it on your case.

Non-Muslim Family Law

Non-Muslim Family Law in Dubai

If both parties are non-Muslim, UAE law now allows you to apply civil personal status law, including civil marriage, civil divorce, equal asset division, and custody rights not based on Sharia. Foreign court orders can also be recognized and enforced in Dubai.

You have more flexibility than many expats realize. The law has changed significantly since 2023. Get advice early; the options available to you now may not be available later.
